I was born as an only child in New York State to a pair of Muggle parents named Mark and Lena Malters, but a job promotion for my father prompted us to move to England when I turned 7. I had my first instance of accidental magic shortly after, when I was playing in a field of sunflowers and thought about a pretty pink dress I had waiting at home for me to try on and suddenly, the entire field changed colors. It was a bit of a shock for me but, young and eager, I instantly ran to my parents to tell them what had just happened, though they assumed that as I was a creative child, the flowers were just a case of my imagination running wild. I pulled them to the field to see for themselves, and although skeptical, they were forced to believe that I might actually have special abilities, as unbelievable as it seemed at the time. After all, they had never seen completely pink sunflowers before, petals and stems and all. Shocked yet delighted by my newfound abilities, my parents thought it wonderful that I could, well, perform magic, but bid me never to let anyone else know as they feared that I would be considered insane and possibly even locked up. Even though I had to keep my abilities a secret, it still felt nice to know that I was special in some way, that I was extraordinary. It was different from my regular life, where, shy and typically choosing to begin friendships with kindness and small jokes rather than openly ask people to become my friends, I wasn't known by too many people and typically faded into the background. I was creative too, writing stories and creating games and characters, but not many people actually knew that. My appearance didn't help much, as I'm brown haired and brown eyed, not overweight but not necessarily skinny, perhaps a bit taller than average height, and lacking any distinctive traits to mark me out as special except for a light sprinkle of freckles across my cheeks. I suppose people only really know me for being good in school and at art, and playing sports such as soccer and volleyball. Coming to Hogwarts should be a new start though, so I'm excited to make some new friends and finally let people know who I really am!
