He doesn't like being called 'Gary', but he'll tolerate it if he's called that by a friend or someone close to him.

Born Canadian, Gareth moved to Brighton a couple years back when his father got a job there. His father is Canadian, while his mother is Chinese. For this reason, he looks like a mixture of both, and he is often bullied at school because of it. Being muggle-born, he always believed the wizarding world to be fictional (until his letter came, that is). He is not very used to the workings of the magical community, but hey, they can essentially bend the laws of physics, so that's always worth learning more about.

Gareth is very introverted, always preferring the quiet over having to socialize, but he is able to make a few friends (probably). He isn't shy though; he's not afraid to talk to people, which is evident in his constant witty remarks.  He's slightly pessimistic a well as sarcastic (incredibly sarcastic) and spends a large amount of class time pointing out the technicalities of everything. Sure, people have come to despise him for that, but he's since decided that he doesn't care. So what if he does psych evaluations of everyone he meets? Nevertheless, he tries not to be cruel or too blunt, as he's been subject to bullying before, and does not wish it on anyone else.

He's not exactly adventurous, but he tends to do dangerous things in the name of science. Basically, even if the thing is extremely illogical and reckless, as long as it's for the sake of knowledge, he's in.

He has a great interest in linguistics, and enjoys psychology. He is fluent in english and mandarin, is conversational in french, and has taken up latin as a hobby. He also has a wide variety of odd skills that he learned from the internet and weird past experiences, such as picking locks and throwing cards.
