Mimisy "Mimi" Scarland is an eleven year old who lives in Heywood England with her mother Ellen, stepfather Issac and grandparents Rodney and Lucy. It is assumed her biological father was a wizard since no one in her family shows to have magic. She was born October 3rd in a muggle hospital. He shortly left after Mimsy's birth. They live in a small townhouse near a crossing of a pub and market.
Mimi tends to be quiet and keeps to herself. She loves to read and is curious about everything. At home she is often seen helping her grandparents out and taking care of the many stray cats in the neighborhood. She is rather shy and doesn't have too many friends her age other than a handful of muggle children she walked to school with.
Mimi first discovers her ability as a witch when angry a nearby mirror broke as she looked at it. Frightened she ran to her mother who at first did not believe her. It wasn't until she made her dolls float when her mother learned of her powers. Mimsy tries to keep her powers a secret from her grandparents who would just not understand, though it is rumored that her great great grandmother could see the future.
She is sad that she has to leave her family, but promises she will send them letters and see them again in the summer. It isn't until close to her eleventh year (as her birthday is in October) when she receives her Hogwarts letter and transfers schools that autumn. Her mother cannot join her at the platform, but Mimsy charges fast towards the wall with her trolley and begins her new adventure.
