Missing The Missing
The blonde child sat, distraught, on the steps of the Owlery. Many of her classmates were writing home today, but Alexx didn't know where to write. Her family was somewhat missing, or rather, on the run. She could write to the family's estate, but she knew it would be to no avail. The estate was empty, and it was a risk giving even her own whereabouts away. Who knows who or what could be lurking the premises, waiting for a sign as to where the Helm's were?
She looked down at her quill and parchment again, sighing in frustration. She had no tears left in her, only the sorrow and anger harsh against her face. She hadn't even written a greeting down, not wanting to have to address anyone in particular. Mom? Dad? Who would even read this? Who would even care? Her letter would be left abandoned somewhere, or perhaps even burned, as they carried no luggage. And even if she wrote, she would receive no response.
"How I envy the people who have someone to at least open their letters," She muttered, anger clear in her soft voice. "they don't realize how truly lucky they are."

Missing The Missing
Robes flying behind her, Jane rushed up the stairs that would lead to the Owlery. She was beyond excited to send her first letter home to her parents. She had received her first letter from them yesterday and had tucked it securely away in her dresser drawer, where she planned to keep all letters from her family. Opening the parchment one last time to read it over, the letter said:
She was in such a hurry that she almost tripped over a body she didn't realize was there.
"I'm so sorry," she apologized, completely appalled at herself for being so distracted. "I wasn't looking where I was going."
Jane looked down at the girl, straightening her black-rimmed reading glasses. She had beautiful long blonde hair that Jane found herself envying a bit. Her own hair only fell just below her shoulders and was more of what her mother called "a dirty blonde." However, she noticed that the girl didn't seem to be okay. Jane didn't want to intrude, but she couldn't leave her alone either.
"Are you alright?" she decided to venture.
It was simple, but Jane thought that it said exactly what she wanted it to, and she couldn't wait to send it out.Dear Mum and Dad,
Hogwarts is pretty weird, but I think I'll get used to it. Classes haven't started yet, but when they do, you know I'll do my best. I love you both very much and miss you a lot. Please write soon.
Love,
Jane

Alexx straightened herself out, looking up to meet the face of the person who had tripped over her. She was a blonde girl in Hufflepuff attire. Alexx seemed to have good luck with attracting Hufflepuffs. She smiled softly at her, too upset to truly be mad. Although, even if she were in a different mood, Alexx often found it hard to be mad at Hufflepuffs.
"I suppose I'm alright." She lied, not really sure if she should bother anyone with her problems. "Just a little homesick is all." Homesick. That was a word that Alexx had never used before. She never had the opportunity to miss a home. She missed France, as it was the closest to a home she had. Six years in the United States, three years in France, one year in Ireland, and hardly a full year in Manchester. Out of all those homes, or rather, "hiding spaces", Alexx remembered France the most. She remembered the hustle and bustle, the beauty of it all. She wanted France to be her home. She really, really did.
But she wasn't in the glory of France anymore. Not the security that she used to know. Ireland was dangerous from the beginning, and now being even closer to the people who want her family the most, it's much like hiding in plain sight. There was so much at risk here, and all she wanted was to speak to her family again. She wanted to tell her siblings and cousins of her time here so far, but she couldn't. Her family would never forgive her if she were the reason they were discovered.

Missing The Missing
She hadn't noticed when she first saw her, but paying closer attention now, Jane realized that the girl sitting before her was a Slyterin. She didn't really know any Slyterins yet. She had heard of their reputations, but she didn't think those probably held any merit.
The girl had answered Jane simply, but she had trouble believing that her words were the truth. She just seemed so... down. She couldn't really think of a better word for it. However, she didn't seem to mind Jane's presence, so she moved to sit next to her.
Tucking her letter in a flap of her robe, she turned to face the other girl. "Would you like to talk about it?" she asked kindly, removing her glasses and tucking them next to the letter.
"I get homesickness," she offered, trying to encourage the girl to come out of her shell a bit. "I really miss my parents. They live in Seaford."
Thinking of home left Jane a bit depressed sometimes, but she found that if it helped this girl at all, she could tolerate it. "I don't have any brothers or sisters, so I just kind of became friends with my parents. And, weirdly, they were enough."
"If you don't want to talk about your family though, I understand. It can be hard to be away from the people you love."

Missing The Missing
Sophie tucked a small letter tightly in her bag, she couldn't risk it being lost.
Dear James & Theodore Murphy
This is stupid. You're dead. I don't care. I need to write to you guys. Maybe someway, somehow, you can read it.I miss you guys a lot. I only knew you for a while. I only knew the way dad and auntie used to talk about you.
You guys were amazing, right? I wish you lived. You shouldn't've died. Nobody except those damn death-eaters and Voldemort should've died! I'm sorry. I can't break out. I can't cry or scream, or wail anymore. I need to be the strong one for the family. I need to be strong for everyone. You guys, Mum, Dad, Auntie, Gran and Gramps.
I know, its pathetic. I should be hanging with friends! Pulling Pranks! Being happy!
But I can't.
Knowing you guys don't know that I'm actually happy in Hogwarts, is what's depressing. I want to tell you things that are going on.I've made friends. I love them. I'm making good grades. Shouldn't that be enough? It should be. It isn't.
I care so much for the little things, that I forget to remember the big things. Like how when you were alive, and you saw me when I was newly born, you wanted to Hold me, James. And when I was born, you boys argued about who would be the god-father. Turns out neither of you were it. I don't know why my father chose him to be my god-father, but he died a few years back. Now if my parents die, I might as well live at Hogwarts.
Of course, you guys will be sad to hear of the death of Kiki, mum's owl. She passed a few days ago. I loved her. Kiyoko, the owl bringing you the letter to your guys' grave. Is healthy and well.
I must go, as I don't want to miss hanging around with Some good friends. I love you guys, more than words on a paper can tell.

Missing The Missing
Alexx smiled softly, happy that this girl had the opportunity to have parents that she could write to. It made her have hope for other people and their lives. She truly did enjoy hearing that not everyone had it rough. Plus, the blonde Hufflepuff was so sweet and wanted to help. She needed the kindness of someone else right now.
"My parents are in... Manchester. I hope." She whispered the last sentence under her breath, almost like she didn't want anyone to hear. Just as she had said that she heard light footsteps behind her. Turning around, she saw another girl who was clad in maroon and gold, standing there. She smiled at her, trying to look cheerful, as she didn't want to dampen anyone's mood.
"Sorry, are we in your way? I can move." She asked, referring to her sitting on the steps. She hadn't realized that other people may be trying to get through. She hadn't had an encounter with a Gryffindor yet, this was the first one she had ever spoken to. She hoped that the stereotypical feud between Slytherin and Gryffindor wouldn't apply right now, as she wasn't in the mood to argue with anyone.

Jane turned to see who had walked in on her and the Slytherin girl's conversation. Noticing the color of her robes, she could easily identify the newcomer as a Gryffindor. Jane hadn't met anyone from that house yet, so she was excited to learn about her. However, there was a known rivalry between Slyterin and Gryffindor House. What if the two of them started fighting right here on the steps? Jane wouldn't have a clue of what to do.
"Oh, sorry," she said, scooting sideways on the steps, making room for the Gryffindor to pass should she decide not to accompany them. Jane chuckled, facing the girl. "I guess this isn't the best spot to sit while people are walking through."
A bit stumped, Jane tried to decipher how the new girl was feeling. She was generally pretty good at that, but for some reason she couldn't figure it out with this girl. It was incredibly frustrating. Perhaps if she invited her into the conversation she would find out.
Patting the spot she had just moved out of, Jane offered, "Would you like to sit? The two of us were just talking about home."
"Wait," she paused, looking over at the student she had already talked to. "I'm so sorry, I don't think I caught your name." Extending her hand, she smiled brightly and added, "I'm Jane Greenway, a member of Hufflepuff House."

Sophie stood, blankly, frozen. She knew sending the letter to her dead uncles was useless, on the other hand, she could make some new friends out of this experience.
"Um, Its useless for me to send this letter, my uncles are dead." She tried to force a smile, but her face didn't seem able to produce more words. And it wasn't like she wanted to produce more words. If she did, she couldn't tell if they were good words.
Sophie glanced at the two girls' robes. A Hufflepuff, this was Jane, as the girl had referred to herself, and a Slytherin, whom she didn't know the name of.
"Sophie Murphy, of the Gryffindor residence." She replied.
Sophie didn't mind any members of any house as long as they were nice. Though, it might've been known about the argument with a Slytherin boy during Breakfast. And besides, the girl sitting on the steps seemed much nicer than the boy.
"Home? God my home is destroyed. My uncles died during the battle of Hogwarts. They dueled Voldemort two versus one. My aunt, in return to their death, became so grief filled and depressed she hid from the world for seven years. And then I was born and she still hid for another three. Then, she finally met me, and said I looked nothing like my mum and dad, and how I looked so much like my uncles."
She realized she had just spilled her whole life story to these two girls she didn't know, and her cheeks turned red, as she mumbled a, 'Sorry.'

Alexx listened, and although she couldn't relate to the story, she related to the feeling. She offered the girl a warm smile, and then even an introduction. "I'm Alexx Helm, Slytherin. My parents, they uh... They won't have the option of reading my letter." It was the truth, but not too obvious as to why. But it felt good to have two people know of her pain that she had been holding in practically all her life. It had eaten away at her, even became her, and there was nothing she could do about it anymore.
"Would you like to sit with us?" She felt as though a single act of kindness, something to make others feel better, might relieve her of some of her own stress. She and Sophie were two of the same, knowing the same type of sadness. While Jane didn't seem like she could relate to that, it was comforting to just have a nice soul there for emotional support. "We can write letters that no one will ever read together."
Although that last bit may have sounded harsh, it being the harsh reality, anyway, Alexx found it easier to joke about the things that no one wanted to talk about. It made her feel better. In Alexx's mind, if you could learn to laugh at it, it wouldn't hurt as much. She hoped she could share that feeling with Sophie.

Jane lowered her eyes a bit as she listened to the two girls talk. They seemed to be kindred spirits, and for the first time ever, she felt a little guilty about having a family to write to. These girls had obviously lost a lot, and Jane just... couldn't relate to that. What could she say? It would probably sound stupid to say sorry. They would probably think she was just a dumb Hufflepuff who didn't know anything about pain. That's probably what they already thought. Jane had heard of what some people thought of Hufflepuffs, but because most at the school had been kind or at least civil to her, she was starting to believe that no one thought that way anymore. But, she could be very wrong.
Searching for anything to add to the conversation, Jane added, "Woah, that's... that's really deep stuff. I'm sorry."
"Jane, you're so stupid," she scolded herself internally, fighting the urge to smack her own forehead. "Saying sorry won't help."
She kept her eyes in her lap then, suddenly ready to turn in her letter and leave. She had obviously made a fool of herself, and she was sure that the other two didn't want her around.
Was she just being paranoid though? Jane knew she had a tendency to do that, but she had a difficult time knowing when her fear was justified and when it wasn't.
